2025 Tom Pinder Education Scholarship

PURPOSE:

In 2014, Deaf & Hear Alberta established the Tom Pinder Education Scholarship in honour of our generous, long-time supporter, Tom Pinder. Tom's ongoing contributions to the scholarship fund mean we can provide financial assistance to post-secondary students/adult learners who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or cochlear implant users and who apply to a selected course or program at an accredited school. Scholarship recipients receive up to $3000.

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • Albertans who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or have a cochlear implant
  • Albertans who need financial support
  • Residents of Alberta and at least 18 years of age

SCHOLARSHIP CONDITIONS

  • You must use the scholarship towards an eligible educational program:
    • Alberta post-secondary or vocational institutions (tuition, tutoring, interpreting or captioning supports).
    • Specialized post-secondary programs for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals located outside of Alberta; subject to eligibility review by Deaf & Hear Alberta.
    • Adult education courses and other training options (ASL instruction certification, tuition, interpreter training or upgrading); subject to eligibility review by Deaf & Hear Alberta.
  • The scholarship will be presented at the Deaf & Hear Alberta Annual General Meeting. You must be present at the meeting to receive the award.
  • A confirmation of enrollment must be provided to Deaf & Hear Alberta before any scholarship funds are awarded.
  • Scholarship dollars are paid directly to the learner upon submission of receipt(s) from the educational institution.
  • The scholarship must be used within one year of the award date.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

  1.  Complete and sign the application form.
  2.  Attach proof of financial need (Canadian Notice of Assessment).  If you do not have one, please contact us.
  3.  Include two signed letters of reference.
